GRAND HAMS - EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS:
EmComm (Emergency Communications) is an important part of our charter and we are working to setup a local simplex operation whereby our members
can provide emergency communications within the community as well to contact regional and nationwide emergency organizations via HF, VHF, and UHF.
We are also establishing a tone-alerting system that will allow a number of our members to be immediately notified if there is an emergency alert.
The EmComm manager for our group is Bob Paul, KG7FIL. Bob also serves as the Assistant Coordinator for the Maricopa Emergency Radio Communications Group. Bob owns several self-sufficient VHF/UHF GOTA (Get On The Air) radio stations which include battery packs capable of being quickly utilized in the event of an emergency.
Members will be erecting outside VHF/UHF antennas for home-based stations to support the EmComm needs for our community. By doing so, we will be capable of communicating amongst ourselves in order to coordinate emergency messages. Mobile and portable EmComm stations will be capable of passing messages to our base stations concerning any emergency events occurring in our community.
Bob Paul has encouraged our members to take ARRL ARES and FEMA training courses:
